Advocates for Victims of Assault Women’s Support Group

AVA Women’s Support group is a psycho-educational support group facilitated by a psychotherapist with a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. During the 6 week, skill building group, members learn about topics such as: the definition of abuse, the cycle of violence, healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, assertiveness and boundaries training, familial patterns of abuse, and finally long term goal setting and appropriate self care. Members not only learn basic knowledge about the dynamics of abusive relationships, but they also gain emotional support from each other in a safe, confidential environment. This group is free to women community members who are currently, or who have been, involved in intimate partner abuse/domestic violence. Pre-session intake meeting required to ensure that prospective member is appropriate for group.

GROUP GOAL: For group members to learn about theoretical concepts of domestic violence and to build concrete skills meant to help change unhealthy patterns of behavior in relationships.
