Book Drive for Advocates for Victims of Assault

As part of their celebration of National Children’s Book Week, Stork & Bear Co. is holding a book drive for Advocates for Victims of Assault.  Please drop off new or gently used books during store hours, (10am-6pm), Monday, May 7- Saturday May 12.  Advocates for Victims of Assault, provides services which enhance safety and justice for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and trauma while promoting peace in our community.  This is an effort to replenish their library, and children’s books in English or Spanish would be greatly appreciated.  In addition to the book drive, Stork & Bear feature daily reading related activities throughout the week, plus a drawing to win a children’s book.  We are located at 610 Main St..  Call (970) 668-5937 for details!

Become a volunteer today!

We are looking for volunteers for our upcoming events.  Please go to this link to sign up for our event volunteer email list.  This is sent out whenever we are looking for volunteers to help with different fundraisers or events!  We have quite a few fundraisers this Summer and we need your help!!!

Frisco BBQ Volunteers needed

The Frisco BBQ is right around the corner and we need your help!  For the 3rd year in a row the Town of Frisco has offered the Ticket Sales Pit Boss position to Advocates.  The Frisco BBQ is June 15th and 16th and we are thrilled to be able to do this once again!  Please click here to sign up if you would like to be a Pit Boss!  The pit boss will be responsible for looking over the ticket sales booths.  As a Pit Boss, you will be there to make sure the booths of volunteers are running smoothly.

If being a pit boss sounds like a job that is more than you would like to do, but you want to still help, you can always go to the Town of Frisco’s website and you can sign up to be a general volunteer for the Frisco BBQ at http://www.townoffrisco.com/events/bbq-challenge/volunteers/ be sure to check the ”Advocates for Victims of Assault”  box under the recruitment section!

Spring Volunteer Training

Are you looking for an opportunity to volunteer?  We have the answer!!!  Advocates for Victims of Assault is starting the Spring volunteer training.  We will provide dinner on the Tuesday/Thursday sessions and lunch on the Saturday sessions.

The volunteer training is a 30 hour training on the tools you will need to help our victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and death and trauma calls.  In order to become an on-call volunteer you must complete the 30 hours of training.  Once you have completed training you will be certified to take call for us after hours and on weekends.  You will also help check clients into our shelter and help with emergency needs.

Theatrical performances based on true stories

The script was originally written by Carolyn Levy and students at Macalester College in 1992.  The script is based on interviews with actual survivors and perpetrators of sexual violence:  all of the stories are true.

Students from Summit County High School will be performing vignettes as members of the Eagle County Sexual Offense Resource Team present about the myths and facts of sexual assault

7:00 p.m., Thursday April 19, 2012 at the Summit  High School located at 16210 Highway 9.

2nd Annual Motherloaded Tavern (almost) End of Season Bash benefiting Advocates for Victims of Assault

Please join us on April 14th at the Motherloaded Tavern in Breckenrige for a benefit to support the work Advocates does.  This event is from 5-9pm.  $20 gets you all you can eat buffet and donated beverages, and a chance to win one of many great mud season prize packages.  (Need not be present to win).  You can purchase tickets in advance or at the door!  Please call (970) 389-0901 for details.  If you have items you would like to donate to our event please let us know!

Advocates Spring Fundraisers

Need an idea of something to do in April?  We have you covered.  Advocates has several fundraisers in April that you can be a part of!  

April 14th The Motherloaded Tavern Fundraiser from 5-9pm at The Motherloaded Tavern in Breckenridge.  Join us for a buffet style dinner and lots of giveaway items perfect for mud season.  $20 at the door or you can buy tickets in advance.

April 21st Women’s Self Defense Class from 12-2pm at Silverthorne Recreation Center  located at 430 Rainbow Drive, Silverthorne.   Please join Advocates for some basic techniques to help protect yourself against an attacker.  Please call (970) 668-3906 to sign up!  A $20 donation is requested.

April 27th Women’s Self Defense class from 7-9pm at the Breckenridge Recreation Center, 880 Airport Road, Breckenridge.  Please join Advocate for some basic techniques to help protect yourself  against an attacker.  Please call (970) 668-3906 to sign up.  A $20 donation is requested.

Please join Master Cavins and other members from Sahn Taekwondo for an introduction to self defense.  You will learn basic techniques to help protect you from an attacker.  Please call (970) 668-3906 to sign up.  A $20 donation is requested.

Kidtopia volunteers needed

We are looking for some volunteers to help with kidtopia at Keystone March 17th – 21st.  We are looking to fill shifts from 10-1pm and 1-4:30pm.  Please call Dawn if you are interested at (970) 389-0901.  You will be helping kids do arts and crafts at Warren Station.  We did this over Christmas and it was a lot of fun!
